Are you suffering from home wireless networking nightmare? There are so many options. 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g – what is all that? All you want is to get online on your notebook computer in your living room without tripping over wires.

First thing you should know is, all of them will get you online or network your computers together. The difference lies in speed, connection quality and more important today, security.

802.11a offers one of the fastest wireless home networking speeds because it runs on a much higher frequency that few other home electronics like phones and microwaves can interfere with. It can also accommodate more computers connected simultaneously – which is why more businesses use it since it’s unlikely a typical wireless home networking setup requires so many connections. So this sounds like the perfect solution right?

Yes and no. The high frequency apparently is its worst feature as well. Many experts will tell you higher frequencies are easily absorbed and result in shorter ranges. It also means it’s less able to overcome obstructions like walls.

That’s not all. 802.11a and 802.11b are two separate frequencies so if you have a notebook computer capable of connecting to only 802.11a networks, it won’t work in a 802.11b setup and vice versa. But, this is probably one of your least worries because many wireless connectivity hardware today are capable of connecting to either one.

802.11b uses a lower frequency. So that expands the connection range but that also means it shares the airspace with other electronics and will likely experience much more interference. On top of that, experts advise that 802.11b networks are weaker when it comes to encryption and security. Also, as you expand your range, you’re also more prone to people trying to crack into your network from further away and more concealed places. That’s certainly an interesting point.

Finally, but definitely not lastly (there are many more 802.11 variations than presented here), is 802.11g. This is somewhat of a hybrid of the two earlier standards. First it uses the same frequency as 802.11b so, you get the benefit of a wider range. Secondly it’s capable of much faster speeds like 802.11a. The third plus is it’s also compatible with 802.11b networks. So you don’t have to get new hardware to make connections with an older network or newer network (depending what you have currently). And, since it’s a newer standard, encryption is also better, and that means you can better secure your home network.

However, 802.11g wireless home networking hardware still costs more to set up than 802.11a but considering the many plusses it has going for it, this is at time of writing the best choice for your wireless home networking setup. Besides, there are plenty specials going on, prices are coming down rather rapidly for both routers and network cards.

With the Announcement by Verizon on November 27th, 2007 a change will be coming to the wireless network industry. For many years now wireless companies have used their buying power to make deals for themselves, and leave the open market out of reach for customers. If you wanted the newest cell phone, PDA, or Bluetooth device you had to wait for your company to provide it and the cost were normally outrageous.

Wireless networks in basic terms means the way electronic products can connect to phones, servers and networks. With Verizon opening up its wireless network to all electronics that can pass its basic compatibility test, means that the customer now has the power to drive the market. Businesses will also benefit from the wireless network news by now being able to contact customers with news of their device or feature. The business will have to have it certified with Verizon, but then may market to the public.

In an example here is the timeline involving Motorola’s SLVR L7C a sleek phone that was released by Motorola left customers waiting for its release by the cell phone companies. Sprint didn’t make this phone available through its shops until November 2006, and in a review was described as being “finally released”. Then in January of the next year Verizon made the same phone available on its wireless network. This delay could have been avoided with the new idea from Verizon by simply incorporating the standards for compliance in the build process, and having it reviewed to insure compatibility with the wireless network. In the end it is time for wireless network companies to market and work for the consumer.

If you search for forums looking for news on electronics and cell phones for wireless networks you will find many people waiting for the newest phones and gadgets, and discussions on compatibility. One poster on howardforums.com posted this concerning the Motorola phone listed above; “Is Verizon going to ever offer this phone (SLVR L7) for their carrier?”

While we as customers are familiar with cell-phones and PDA’s being marketed in the advertising market, it mainly revolved around a few products that were already approved by and contracted with companies such as Verizon.

This opening of the wireless networks should happen for some companies by the middle of 2008, and with Verizon happening at some point in latter part of 2008.

When the book retailer Amazon first came on the scene, it introduced the online bookstore to us. This time round, it has taken that move one step further by offering its merchandise in electronic form. All this is done through a new wireless reading device called the Amazon Kindle. The stage is now set for complete electronic reading if you choose; yes, e-books electronically procured and read with an electronic reader.

The Kindle electronic reader is engineered to download blogs, books, newspapers, and magazines. Periodicals are automatically sent to the device. Technology has afforded us with a very practical alternative to holding a book, magazine or other reading material and turning from one page to another. The Amazon Kindle is indeed powerful and is only surpassed by its successor the Kindle 2.

The Kindle electronic reader is designed to operate on its own. It is connected directly to the Amazon Whispernet through 3G technology for media flow, synching and even internet browsing. There’s no service plan, contracts or bills to worry about because this feature is paid for by Amazon. About the only cost upon the user is power consumption on the battery; recharging every 4 to 5 days of continuous operation as opposed to 2 weeks with the wireless turned off.

Whispernet is Kindle’s dedicated wireless network. It carries the delivery system of its e-books and other reading materials. The service is practically instant. Within a minute of placing order, users can be reading away. The first few pages of the books are also available for sampling before deciding to buy. This wireless feature is currently not available outside the country but it shouldn’t be for long as the Kindle is meant for traveling.

The best thing about this wireless reader is its crisp black-and-white paper-like display. For an electronic screen, it’s very easy on the eyes especially for those who read for long periods. The display is based on the Vizplex version of E-ink technology with no backlighting. Reading is thus 100% natural in bright sunlight and you won’t have a problem with the screen getting too hot from reading too long either.

Furthermore, Whispernet makes use of Amazon’s optimized technology plus Sprint’s national high-speed (EVDO) data network for users to wirelessly search, download, synch and read content. The maiden Kindle has been further enhanced into the Kindle 2. By seriously considering user feedback on the original Kindle, Amazon is gratefully able to come up with an even more impressive wireless reading device for its readers now.

It’s not surprising that the Amazon Kindle 2 is generally rated as the top Wireless Reading Device. We have the hard facts to show why.

In an office situation, the company banks on quick communication and links to each department. An individual can be called in to setup extensive wireless networks throughout the whole business.

It is primary that students are able to join to the Internet not just in the classroom but also in their dormitory, there is usually more research done after school time therefore connection is required 24/7. This is really easy to do and will benefit pupils with their course research. You would be able to use the Web from almost anywhere in the building as long as you are in range of the wireless network.
